Miyajima Tatsuo, *1957 (Tokyo) Lives in Tokyo, works with sculpture and installation. Time Lift,200 Light installation with 104 LED bulbs, 9 x 3.8 cm each bulb Tatsuo Miyajima's ongoing exploration of the experience of time is embodied in his "gadgets", as he calls them, on which the numbers 1 to 9 light up at irregular intervals: they count "time". To implement his contribution at the Zurich headquarters, Miyajima uses the entire lift: the glass cabin, the depth of the shaft and the movement from floor to floor through the vertical tunnel. The gadgets, each showing the rhythmical counting of one single number, are staggered and connected with each other in the depth of the lift shaft. Movement through the perspectival narrows of the space approaches single sources of time and recedes again. The gadgets, as marks of orientation, intensify the feeling that we are moving through a time-space continuum; we become acutely aware of spatialised time. |
