Schnider Albrecht, *1958 (Lucerne) Lives in Berlin, works with painting, drawing and prints. Blume IV,1996 Oil on canvas, 57 x 344 cm © Albrecht Schnider People and landscapes are the main subjects in the work of Albrecht Schnider, the son of a farmer. He started by painting in violent brush strokes and splashes of colour, before later developing an increasingly formalised and even style. Everything curves in smooth and round forms as if becoming decoration. His pictures became ever lighter, the physical fading as if submerged in excess light. A delicate lily, a symbol of purity as well as death, marks this transition. The world becomes an expanse, becomes abstract art. |
