Olivier Mosset Sketch I   Mosset Olivier, *1944 (Berne)
Lives in Tucson, Arizona, works with painting.

Sketch I,2006
Acrylic on cotton duck, 7 panels, 900 x 1,400 cm

American large formats are characteristic of Olivier Mosset's abstract and geometric picture compositions. His radical style of painting, which tends to be monochromic, accentuates the flatness and, with that, the character of his subject matter: "painting which is nothing other than painting". The life work of this dedicated Swiss artist is devoted to the study and pursuit of that goal.

Sketch II,2006
Acrylic on cotton duck, 7 panels, 900 x 1,400 cm

For the walls of the two light shafts above the entrance area of the Soodring building, Olivier Mosset created a series of seven, nine-metre-high panels of strikingly luminous colour. The alternating brown/yellow and, as shown here, blue/violet panels accentuate the architecture of the building and quite literally lend colour to the spatial expanses.

For this outdoor mural, Mosset placed a band of blue along the entire length of the Swiss Re Academy building opposite the main entrance of the Soodring location. Mosset was interested in the contrast between his indoor works for the site, with their more traditional application of paint on canvas, and the outdoor piece that some might not even recognise as art. The challenge, he said, “is not to do something that’s design or decoration. It has to keep this status as art or painting.”
