Urs Frei Untitled   Frei Urs, *1958 (Zurich)
Lives in Zurich, works with sculpture, painting and drawing.

Untitled,1990
Acrylic and varnish on plastic, set of 9, 30 x 40 cm

Urs Frei employs everyday materials and rubbish as an ironic commentary on the process of artistic production and the artistic product itself. For this set of paintings, Frei took the plastic drop cloth covering the floor in his studio, cut out sections of the paint-splattered sheeting and mounted them onto basic wooden stretching frames, which are visible through the clear plastic. In this case, the work is more of an artistic by-product, located somewhere between the realm of found objects and works generated by the hand of the artist.
