Anüll Ian, *1948 (Sempach, Switzerland) Has lived in Paris, Geneva, Zurich, Barcelona and Berlin in recent years, works with painting, drawing, sculpture, film, photography and installation. Untitled,1992 Watercolour, 21 x 29.5 cm © Ian Anüll In his wide-ranging oeuvre that deliberately defies stylistic categorization, Ian Anüll culls elements from the world of consumer goods, advertising and the mass media, putting them in new contexts in a manner that is playful and poetic, contemplative and critical. To paraphrase Christoph Vögele at Kunstmuseum Solothurn, the meticulousness of execution and the sensual impact are most conspicuous in Anüll's paintings and watercolours. Although the Constructivist formal language he frequently employs lends flags, logos or political manifestos a certain irony, his works show a striking beauty and clarity of composition. |
