Basics on Composition LII (Snow White),1993 Oil on canvas, 40 x 50 cm © 2006, ProLitteris, Zürich The style of Helmut Federle's compositions in muted hues lies somewhere between symbolism of form and abstraction. Basic geometric forms, Asian calligraphy or simply his initials, H and F, serve as the inspiration and basis for his pictures. He has gradually moved away from the use of the letter H in "Basics on Composition", an extensive series of small-format paintings. What becomes important is the resonance of two equivalent colours in symmetrically positioned squares. |
