Comprised of some 120 large colour prints taken between 1977 and 1982, Jean-Marc Bustamante's "Tableaux" series documents semi-urban places around Barcelona where, in the artist's words, "there has been a lot of destruction, where nature is no longer wild". He is interested in the territory at the juncture of nature and culture, as in this photo showing a patchy stand of trees and a derelict road construction project crossed with dusty tire treads.

Taken by the artist on his travels across the world between 1995 and 1997, the photos from the "Something Is Missing" series do not offer any information on the specific places being documented or their chronology. The title, according to the curator Catherine Kinley, "refers to the artist's continuing search for material, indicating the open-ended nature of his approach; it also suggests that his photographs, though highly detailed, must inevitably remain a provisional or incomplete account of the places where they were taken".
