Sylvie Fleury Eternal Wow with Quartz 1   Fleury Sylvie, *1961 (Geneva)
Lives in Geneva, works with sculpture, installation, painting, video, photography, mixed media and drawing

Eternal Wow with Quartz 1,2007
Light sculpture (crystal) and wall painting, various dimensions

In the outer two light shafts that extend over three floors of the building at Soodring 33 and face the garden, Sylvie Fleury has placed crystalline neon sculptures in combination with salmon pink and lilac purple striped wall paintings. We are drawn into a seductive mental universe that echoes the hallucinatory feel of Op Art.

For Fleury, the work can evoke many different things: the straight and the curved, yin and yang, a closed space in the way the stripes resemble a prison or an opening, an escaping, a way of letting the mind travel. Or, as she describes: “There’s also a possibility of not seeing anything or just seeing a pretty lamp because the crystal has light in it. I believe there are as many answers as there are viewers.”
