Bernd Zimmer takes his inspiration from nature. Visual experiences, often culled from his travels, furnish ideas for images that become dynamically condensed into paintings and series of paintings. The canvases do not show reproductions of objects but rather the way in which they are experienced. It is hence not surprising that the artist is chiefly fascinated by the appearance of light and colour in nature.

For the opening of the new building of Swiss Re Germany, Bernd Zimmer digitalised five of his paintings and had them applied on transparency film using Inkjet printing. The panels of the work Kosmos (also referred to as Meteoriten) are backlit, which lends them a captivating luminosity.
