Rosenquist James, *1933 (Grand Forks, North Dakota) Lives in New York City and Tampa, Florida, works with painting, prints, drawings and collage. On F-111,1965 Screenprint, 74 x 59.5 cm © 2007, Pro Litteris, Zurich Close-up enlargements, bright luminous colours and montage characterise the work of James Rosenquist, resulting in a glorification of the artificial, the perfectly arranged. The screenprint On F-111 (1965) makes reference to James Rosenquist’s most famous work, the multi-panel room installation featuring the F-111 fighter plane and other images painted in response to the Vietnam War. Here he creates richly associative syntheses by combining otherwise unrelated visual motifs from advertisements and other areas of popular culture. |
