Untitled,1973 Lithograph, 100 x 70 cm © 2007, Pro Litteris, Zurich Eduardo Paolozzi was a leading member of the "Independent Group", a union of artists and intellectuals from various fields. In 1956, this group initiated the exhibition "This is Tomorrow" at Whitechapel Art Gallery in London, which is known as the birthplace of British Pop Art. The reciprocal potential of art, science and technology was a source of particular fascination for Eduardo Paolozzi. He cast richly associative bronze and aluminium sculptures from the detritus of civilisation and produced mosaics of technical and mechanical structures and brightly coloured diagrams. |
