Claes Thure Oldenburg, *1929 (Stockholm) Lives in New York, works with sculpture, drawings, prints and painting. Flying Pizza,1964 Colour lithograph, 43 x 55.5 cm Claes Thure Oldenburg frequently touches on themes relating to the megametropolis of New York and, in particular, things that can be eaten. He twists and distorts everyday objects by inverting their materiality: from hard to soft and vice versa. Flying Pizza is an early example of Claes Oldenburg’s tendency to monumentalise popular objects, which also characterises the oversized sculptures of his later Large Scale Projects series. |
